In the past centuries, post-secondary education had always followed the
same trend where university students go to school each morning, sit in a
class with a large group of people and learn from a single professor.
Nowadays though, this trend is gradually starting to change. Most
universities around the world are now starting to offer many of their
courses online because e-learning brings in a lot of profit considering
many more students could gain access to these courses. Moreover, virtual
universities are starting to open up, the first being Jones
International University that was accredited as a totally virtual
university. The promise of such online universities is their abilities
to offer an equal level of education to people all over the world.
Although there are many advantages of this technology, some which
include access to courses from all over the world, time flexibility, and
socializing with people from all over the world through group projects,
there are also disadvantages associated with it. Some of these include
the need to keep track of good quality curriculum and the prevention of
professors marketing themselves as a brand rather than supporting and
staying consistent with their university¹s plans. The world is greatly
moving towards this kind of technology and will remain to advance that
way, therefore current universities need to keep up with the technology
because undoubtedly this industry is inflating and will soon take over
modern education trends.

Jasmin Hofer responds:
This is very interesting. To get an entire degree through computer use.
Such technology can prove to be very useful. Do you think that this
technology will truly ever ovretake our modern trends of teaching? I
beleive that as much as we are dependant on computers, human instinct is
to crave contact with others. We need to be socially satisfied. I
think it would be difficult, if not frustrating to do all my courses
online, as not much movement, or change in setting occurs. My thoughts
are in support of this new technology, but just not to it's fullest
extent.
