Internet addictions common with college students
Internet adduction is becoming common among college students, as they
continue to depend on its usage. College students are living in a world
where homework, assignments often requires internet accesses; mail
messages replace phone calls to distant friends and family.

As a result of spending so much time in front of computer screens, it
is common for some to develop habits that resemble an addiction to the
internet. As an analysis, it is seen that a lot of people whose
compulsive addiction to the internet, is interfering with their lives.
Today¹s generation of college students has grown up with computers and
because the technology is so familiar to students, they might find the
internet a reassuring medium.

For many students, the internet has become a replacement for face to
face interaction and an alternative to spending time alone. One of the
most noticeable results of excessive internet use for students is lack
of attention to daily responsibilities. If a student realizes he has a
problem and tries to cut back on internet use but fails, he might be
dealing with internet addiction and should seek professional help.

I agree that the use of the internet and a the developing addiction is
definately a problem. EVer since I started university I myself am
constantly on the computer, since I do not have a tv in my room, the
internet and computer seems to be the only thing that can occupy my time
when I'm bored. Especially the use of MSN, has become my life! It is a
great way to stay in touch with friends, and keep updated on the latest
news and events that I'm missing back home. I wouldnt say that I have
an internet addiction but I definately spend a lot of my time using the
computer.

I'm surprised there wasn't reportings on this earlier. I agree that
students depend on computers, however I haven't yet seen someone whose
lives have been affected by their use of computers. I'm sure there are
lots of people though who are affected by it. It is disappointing that
the internet has replaced one-on-one interaction. Strange to think that
internet addiction requires seeking professional help.

I think that face to face interaction is very important, and that the
internet and computers should not replace people. Schools should not
focus primarily on technology, but on one on one interactions.

I dissagree completely with this article. I have had access to a
computer since I was 6 years old, and I have not noticed any decline in
person to person interaction, or time spent alone. The computer, like
any microwave, toaster or breadmaker, is just a machine, and can be
turned off. People do not become physically dependant on computers,
because life, contrary to popular belief, does still exist predominantly
in physical contact with other human beings.
