Virtual Education: The Need of the Hour

Today is the growing age of the Internet. In many ways our lives are
directly or indirectly dependent on the Internet. Many concepts and
practices are said to have become virtual. Virtual reality is taking
place and along with that comes Virtual Education.
Many schools and universities have begun to use this method of
education, referring it to as e-learning mode or distance education.
Students and professors are finding it uncomplicated, as they do not
have to spend time going to their specific institution, and are able to
accomplish tasks at their own pace. They are able to find time
according to their own schedule and are able to fit in other activities.
They also save money by not having to buy expensive textbooks, since the
required study materials are available on educational CD¹s.
Furthermore, acquiring international certificates and foreign college
degrees has also been made possible through virtual education.
There are many reasons why students are taking on this new learning
experience. Students are extremely pleased with the comprehensive
knowledge and information they have achieved through various sites and
answers from global forums. Also, voice tutorial CD¹s are also
available that give virtual education as if one is attending a lecture
in a classroom. What is beneficial is that if you miss out on
something, you can just go back and replay it. Additionally, many times
students need to get information, or immediate answers to questions that
are not understood. With virtual education you are able to obtain these
answers with easy access on the net.
All of these positive accessibilities have made virtual education a
promising future proposal.

It's definitely true that we are becoming more and more dependent on
the internet. It can be really convenient for ordering products, talking
to friends and gathering information for projects, and in the years to
come, we'll probably see virtual education increase in popularity.

I think that virtual learning is a great alternative for those who like
to accomplish tasks at their own pace. I also like how it mentions a
way for international students to obtain a degree at a university of
their choice, since they can do it right from their homes. great
article.

Reply:

Although I agree with these benefits of virtual education, I don't
believe that this method of learning will be widely used in the near
future. Even though many students today have taken a course or two
through on-line education, a complete course-load through this method
would have many negative consequences.

One negative consequence is the fact that the student would have to
spend countless hours at a computer. Not only does this cause strain on
the student's eyes and muscles, but it takes time away from being
social. Making friends in school is a large part of the process of
growing up and therefor a lack of interaction with other sudents might
hinder development.

Also, it is impossible to accomplish certain tasks over the internet.
For example, the student will not be able to complete presentations,
which is a valuable skill learned in the classroom. Other things like
labs and other hands-on learning can also not be used.

Therefor, although virtual education looks promising for future
students, it is not a replacement for traditional in-class learning.
